Ceramic tiles has already become popular as the flooring and decorative choice of many homeowners in their homes. Ceramic tiles are also affordable. There are two main classification or grading system for ceramics tiles; the ANSI and the PEI.

The ANSI system classifies ceramic tiles as:

1. Standard grade: This is the type that is sold mostly and has meet that minimum requirements set by ANSI.
2. Second grade: This is similar to standard grade but for the imperfections on its glaze and size. They are less expensive than standard grade.
3. Wall tiles/decorating tiles: This type of tiles are thin and the body and glaze are weak. They are used only for walls as decorative tiles.

The PEI give a more specific classifying system for ceramic tiles:

1. Group I: these tiles are for residential bathrooms floors
2. Group II: these tiles are for residential use but for areas where there is very low traffic like bedrooms and bathrooms
3. Group III: these tiles are suitable for both residential and light commercial use
4. Group IV: these tiles are appropriate for light commercial use like lobbies, restaurants and hotels
5. Group V: these tiles are suitable for serious performance traffic and damp areas like sidewalks and malls
