Shabby chic designs are gaining popularity because it brings with it a sense of nostalgia. They remind us of things in our past that invokes good memories with our grandparents and happy times with our family and friends. They make people feel warm and comfortable. You don’t have to necessarily refurbish a thing because the lines and scratches in them tell you of its history. Using shabby items as decors can be fun. You can find shabby chic items in flea markets, second-hand stores and sometimes in garage sales. You can hunt for things like a peeling antique vanity in muted green or creamy white, an elegant but a little cracked chandelier or a big slip-covered sofa with plump pillows. You can then have a blast into turning these items into something new and incorporating them into your existing design scheme. Although refurbishing these items can be labor intensive but the rewards are amazing and it can be a labor of love.
