Double-hung window is perhaps the most familiar window type. It consists of an upper and lower sash that slide vertically in separate grooves in the side jambs or in full-width metal weather-stripping. This type of window provides a maximum face opening for ventilation of one-half the total window area. Each sash is provided with springs, balances or compression weathe-rstripping to hold it in place in any location. The windows can be opened by sliding it upwards or downwards. One of the most common types of windows, the double hung windows are chosen by most manufacturers because they are affordable and easy to maintain.
Double hung windows are considered safe especially in a home with children. This is because the top pane can be opened which makes it difficult for children to open and hurt themselves. This type of window also is a space saver when opened compared with using the casement type window thus, homeowners will have more walking room near the window.

When decorating a small room, you have to decide if you want the room to look bigger or you want the room to be cozier. What you want the room to be will be the deciding factor in choosing the room window treatment.
If you want the room to look bigger, you have to keep the window treatments as simple as possible. Avoid layering the window treatments and make sure that all the curtains in the room are the same. Another way to make a small room look larger is to make the color of the window treatments closely match that of the walls. That way, they will blend with the walls instead of causing contrast. Contrast causes your eye to stop, and therefore makes a small space seem even smaller.
