Dust is the enemy of us all. Not only is dust not lovely to look at, at can cause diseases too. Dust are mainly made up of sloughed-off skin cells, animal hairs and dander, dust mites and their feces, dead bugs among other yucky things. We can not avoid having dust in our house but we can certainly reduce it and get rid of them as soon as possible. But the question is how to effectively get rid of dust? So here are some tips on how tyo deal with it.

Do not use your old clothes duster, use a microfiber or electrostatic cloth instead. These cloths attract dusts and not just move it around. After using it, you can throw it in the wash, air dry then it’s ready for use again. There are also microfiber dusters which have loops and strips of microfiber to catch even more dust. These dusters come in various shapes and lengths for reaching hard to reach places like theĀ  ceiling fan and blinds. Do not just use microfiber or electrostatic cloth, use a damp one. Damp cloth can clean more effectively than a dry one. It may sound like you’re obsessive-compulsive when it comes to dusts, it won’t harm if you dry mop your floor everyday or vevry other day.

As for vacuuming, it will your choice as to which you prefer doing first, vacuuming or dusting. Choose a vacuum that has a high efficiency particulate filter ot HEPA. This will trap more tiny dust particles. To maintain the high performance of your vacuum, empty and clean the dust canister after every use, change belts and bags as needed and make sure that the brush wheel is free of hair and other materials.

Make sure that your air conditioner’s filter is clean. Make it a habit to clean it at least once a month or more often if you like. Pleated air filters catch more dust particles, and some are electrostatically charged to attract pollen and other allergens. Dust mites thrive on moist environment, so use your air conditioner to adjust the humidity of your room.

Fabrics traps dusts as well as being one one of its sources. It will be better to minimize textiles and fabrics like throw pillows and rugs. if you can’t do without them, then change, vacuum and wash it often. If you must have carpet, opt for shorter pile. Leather, wood, acrylic and plastic leave dust no place to hide and are easily cleaned.

Leave dust no place to hide or accumulate. Books, knicknacks and other things are dust traps, so declutter your home and keep everything organized. Store your collectibles in glass cabinets so that it won’t need cleaning often. Shoes, purses and stuffed toys can be kept in plastic bins. Clean up your closet and purge it of stuff that you don’t need anymore. Off-season clothing can be kept in plastic bins or hanging bags so that it won’t accumulate dust as well as limit its shedding.

The amount of dust in your home will depend on the number of people living in it. If you have pets, then the more you have to be vigilant against dust.
